Pesso Boyden Training Recognised Levels of Qualifications
There are several levels of award that can be gained through different levels of achievement:
1. Completion of Foundation training: year 1
2. Completion of Full training: years 2 & 3
3. PBSP Accreditation (known by the International PBSP community as Certification)
1. Completion of Foundation Training
Participants who successfully complete the one year Foundation Training, receive a Certificate of Attendance for an Introduction to PBSP Theory and Practice
What does gaining this award allow me to do?
Participants who successfully complete to the required standard an end-of-training practical assessment may apply to undertake Full Training.
2. Completion of Full Training
Participants who successfully achieve the required standard in the practical assessment at the end-of-the Full Training Programme are permitted to use PBSP in their work.
What does gaining this award allow me to do?
If their work prior to PBSP training is as a qualified psychotherapist, PBSP training deepens and enhances practice.
For those working in other ‘people professions’, PBSP training does not provide a therapeutic qualification. However, PBSP training will enhance and deepen their effectiveness with clients. It is recommended that non-therapists who want to use PBSP in a therapeutic way or run PBSP groups undertake a formal therapeutic qualification.

3. PBSP Accreditation (Certification)
After successful completion of the Full Training (3 years), and having fulfilled the required hours of practice and supervision, click here to see the full criteria, qualified counsellors or psychotherapists may submit a film of themselves leading a structure, which will be evaluated.
If the work achieves the appropriate standard set by the PBSP International Assessment Board, the practitioner achieves Accreditation (certification) as a Pesso-Boyden Therapist.
What does gaining Accreditation allow me to do?
This allows them to be registered on the PBSP UK website as an Accredited Therapist. It allows them to invite the PBSP trainees that are attending the one and three year training, to their structure groups. It allows them to apply for training as a PBSP supervisor.
PBSP Qualifications: Categories and Descriptions
When searching for Pesso Boyden therapy or supervision, please note that these categories represent the recognised levels of training and qualification.
- Completed Basic Introduction to PBSP: has completed an approved PBSP training for 1 year
- PBSP Trainee / Student: currently a student in the second or third year of an approved PBSP 3 year training
- PBSP Lay Practitioner*: non-therapists (e.g. teachers and social workers) who have completed an approved PBSP 3 year training
- PBSP Psychotherapist (Pre-Accreditation): has a psychotherapeutic qualification (BACP or UKCP or equivalent) and has completed an approved PBSP 3 year training but not yet gone forward for accreditation
- PBSP Accredited Psychotherapist: has a psychotherapeutic qualification (BACP or UKCP or equivalent) and has completed an approved PBSP 3 year training, and has successfully passed the PBSP Accreditation process (this equates to the USA and European PBSP Certified Therapist)
- PBSP Supervisor in Training: a PBSP Accredited psychotherapist, in training as a supervisor of PBSP therapists and students
- PBSP Supervisor (Pre-Accreditation): a PBSP trained supervisor who has not yet completed the Supervisor’s Accreditation process
- PBSP Accredited Supervisor: has completed the PBSP official supervisor training and evaluation
- PBSP Accredited Trainer: has completed all the above steps, and additionally undergone an evaluation process to be recognised as an approved PBSP Trainer
* You must be a qualified psychotherapist (UKCP BACP or equivalent) in order to go through the accreditation process, following completion of the three year PBSP official training.
