PBSP Supervisor Training
Eligibility requirements to apply to join the Supervisors Training
Entry to this course is by invitation only
To be eligible to join the PBSP Supervisor Training you need to be a:
- fully qualified counsellor or psychotherapist (NB it is recommended that those wishing to train as a PBSP supervisor should be BACP/UKCP Accredited before starting the PBSP Supervision Training)
- have completed the PBSP UK Full Therapist Training of three years
- have passed the Accreditation Process as a PBSP Therapist
- have more than 2 years of clinical experience as an Accredited Therapist, complying with the requirements for supervision, CPD and ongoing assessment
- have submitted a film of your work for evaluation as a Senior Accredited Therapist
- have been invited by at least two trainers to join the supervisor’s training
The Supervisor’s training consists of attendance at:
- 9 Tutored Days.
- 3 Days Assisting on a training course.
- 3 ‘Observer Participant’ days observing a supervision group.
- Applicants are also encouraged to sit in as observers on as much of PBSP Therapist Training as possible.
Dates: The training will start on July 22 2020 and be completed on April 16 2021
NB: Due to COVID disruption dates post April 2021 required for completion tbc
Costs: The Supervision Training (15 days) costs £2,300 per person.
Further requirements for Supervisors-in-training: Intervision
The PBSP supervisors in training will meet in an intervision group, for a minimum of 15 hours.
The goals are:
- to exchange individual experiences with giving supervision
- to ‘rehearse’ supervision together, using role-play and learning from feedback
- to discuss literature
- to discuss films of client work and supervision
Further requirements for Supervisors-in-training: Preparing Lectures
Supervisors in training are expected to understand, research, prepare and deliver a 10 – 15-minute lecture on ten core topics (out of the thirty+ classic PBSP Training lectures).
Further requirements for Supervisors-in-training: Supervision of supervision
- Outside the training hours, each trainee will be required to attend 10 hours of individual supervision of supervision.
- These hours should be collected across the trainer resource.
- This will either be live supervision of supervision, or will be reviewing a film of supervision of supervision.
- The cost for supervision of supervision is £120 per hour.
- This will be arranged and paid for outside the training.
Sitting in on PBSP training for therapists:
- It is highly recommended that the supervisor-in-training attend a number of training days in PBSP training programmes, as an observer
- This will provide an update for his/her knowledge of Pesso Boyden System Psychomotor and will expand his/her supervisor capabilities by observing supervision work performed by experienced trainers
- Please book these days well in advance. They are subject to space
Evaluation as a supervisor:
When the supervisor-in-training
- has given 20 hours of supervision
- has received a minimum of 5 hours of supervision about supervision
- has attended 8 training days
- has attended 7 hours of intervision, the next evaluation steps will follow:
- a self-evaluation report, addressing learning goals of the supervisor-in-training
- a report composed by the supervisor-in-training containing the supervision-process of the work with one therapist they have supervised several times.
- an evaluation report by a trainer
Application for accreditation as a supervisor
- The supervisor-in-training must supervise at least two different therapists for a minimum of 40 hours.
- Before application for Accreditation the supervisor-in-training shall compose an article on a relevant PBSP subject, that will be published in a national journal or in the proceedings of a conference, or a public psychotherapy journal or distributed among the PBSP Community of Practice.
- The supervisor-in-training Accreditation review will be conducted by three trainers. It will consist of:
- 60 minutes of supervision work, including a written overview of the supervision process of the client and filmed sections to demonstrate this.
- A collegial interview focusing on the trainee’s supervision attitude and knowledge of theoretical/technical PBSP issues. This will be conducted by Skype.
